The article critiques the European Union’s institutions for widespread corruption, inefficiency, and resistance to meaningful reform, arguing Britain should consider exiting rather than remaining to attempt repairs. It questions the EU’s federalist aims, doubts its added value beyond postwar stability, and suggests that a revived EFTA-style free-trade association might better serve British interests. Brexit could precipitate the EU’s decline, which the author contends would be preferable to persisting with an irreformable supranational project.
