This article investigates the Spiral of Silence and examines media efforts to disrupt it in Georgia, the United States, and Russia. Drawing on case studies – from Georgian journalists who resisted government pressure to US reporters challenging official narratives and Russian dissidents such as Dmitry Muratov – the research traces how fear of isolation curbs expression and how individual and collective acts of courage can fracture prevailing silences. Combining theoretical exposition with empirical analysis of twentieth‑ and twenty‑first‑century episodes, the study identifies mechanisms that sustain silence, the tactics used to overcome it, and concludes with practical recommendations for media actors seeking to foster open public discourse and protect dissenting voices.
