The author examines legal and deontological norms governing journalists’ professional use of social media, comparing sluggish legislative responses – notably in the United States – with international ethical frameworks. Focusing on Georgia’s constitutionalised, hybrid context, the study evaluates existing law and adapts editorial guidelines and press‑council codes to local conditions. Drawing on comparative litigation, regulatory practice, and newsroom standards, the paper offers practical recommendations to help journalists preserve impartiality and credibility online by aligning conduct with established legal obligations and professional ethics.
