Abstract

This article examines practices and challenges in journalistic source anonymity. Drawing on ethical codes, legal frameworks, and comparative examples (notably Norway), it analyses how newsrooms balance the public interest in protected information with the need for rigorous verification. The study evaluates the criteria journalists use to vet anonymous tips, the limits of anonymity in securing reader trust, and how heightened public interest increases demands for evidentiary transparency. It argues for clearer verification protocols and for contextual disclosure to preserve both source protection and credibility.
